Why Your Motorcycle Stalls Without a Choke
Clogged Fuel Line and Petcock
If your motorcycle or ATV only runs when the choke is on and stalls when the choke is off, the most common cause is clogged fuel lines or a faulty petcock. The petcock is a valve that controls the flow of fuel from the tank to the carburetor. When the petcock is clogged or faulty, it can restrict the flow of fuel, causing the engine to stall.
Symptoms of Clogged Fuel Lines or Petcock
- Engine stalls when the choke is off - Engine runs rough or hesitates when the choke is on - Difficulty starting the engine - Fuel filter is dirty or clogged
